Northumberland District Councils

Northumberland has a 2 tier local government structure in which the work of Northumberland County Council is complemented by the 6 District Councils below.

Northumberland County Council is responsible, amongst other things, for education, libraries, social services, protective services and strategic planning for the County.
The District Councils are responsible for Council housing, leisure services, local planning matters and other local issues such as markets and refuse collection. Both the County and the District Councils have economic development responsibilities.
