Buyers Clubs
Buyers Clubs
offer great deals on products or services. There are some however, that are not
so great. Scam artists can set up legitimate appearing Buyers Clubs that are
simply there to bill every person they can find payment details for.
These payment
details may have been provided by another company, could have been part of
another scam, or part of a high-pressure telemarketing process to offer free
trial periods.
The consumer
receives information on the Buyers Club, offering trial offers, trial period
membership, or even confirmation of membership. Often, at the end of any trial
period, the company will begin billing the consumer.
Many consumers
do nothing, or they leave it for a few months before they cancel any such
membership. The scam artist relies on inaction to make their money.
Prevention
Be aware when
buyers clubs send you information. If you receive any trial periods or
confirmation of a membership that you have not entered into, contact the club
immediately to cancel.
Be sure to
check you bank account and credit card statements and immediately contest any
unauthorised charges.
