On Friday 16th June, the County Council Executive agreed to further consultation being carried out on the preferred two-tier model for reorganisation in the Cramlington Partnership from 19th June until 21st July 2006.
This consultation has been arranged in response to the Judgement arising from the Judicial Review brought by Parents for Legal Action against Northumberland County Council. You can read the full Judgement by following this link:
A consultation document has been sent to parents, staff, governors and other stakeholders outlining why the County Council is proposing a change to a two-tier system of education, including information on academic performance in Cramlington and certain other authorities who operate a three-tier system. The document also outlines the preferred model for schools in Cramlington and includes a response form.

Role of School Organisation Committees
A School Organisation Committee is an independent statutory body set up to decide statutory proposals for changes to schools. It consists of 5 groups: the Local Education Authority, Church of England and Roman Catholic dioceses for the area, schools, and the Learning and Skills Council. A sixth group can be added to cater for particular local interests. If the Committee cannot agree unanimously, proposals are decided by an independent Schools Adjudicator. Alternative Models
Examples of Mobile Classrooms
The County Council's preferred model for reorganisation of the Cramlington Partnership would see First Schools opening as Primary Schools in September 2007. To meet this implementation date, first school head teachers have accepted that additional mobile classrooms would be needed at some schools while works are carried out. However, the time the mobiles would be on site would be limited to one or two years in most cases. Some parents have expressed concerns about the standard of mobile classrooms, but the following photographs taken on site at a school within the partnership demonstrate that modern mobile classrooms are light, airy and suitable teaching environments for children.
