THE VILLAGE
A Village Improvements Questionnaire has been delivered to residents of Pegswood Village with regards to gaining views to possible works within the village itself.
There is also a version that can be downloaded and completed electronically before e-mailing back to us using the address on the contacts page.

EXISTING CONDITIONS
The village of Pegswood, lying between Ashington and Morpeth, is bisected by the A197 road, which is currently the main access route for traffic between Ashington and Morpeth. The road has a daily traffic flow of some 8630 vehicles which is predicted to rise to 9540 vehicles by 2007 if the bypass is not implemented. HGV traffic accounts for 10% of these traffic figures.
For a long time Northumberland County Council have recognised that the volume of traffic passing through the village represents a significant environmental problem in terms of access and safety, as well as traffic noise and fumes.
Construction of the bypass and the resultant removal of through traffic from Pegswood will be the start of a new era in the village. It is predicted that highway safety will improve and accidents reduce. Pedestrian and residents will also benefit with the significant reductions in noise, dust and vehicle emissions.
Proposed conditions
Northumberland County Council intend to prepare a consultation to determine what, if any, improvements can be made to enhance the road corridor when through traffic has been diverted away to the bypass.
Details will appear here as these proposals progress.
