The scheme comprises an at grade roundabout on the A197 at Whorral Bank, with the road running through a shallow cutting and then on an embankment as it approaches the proposed Climbing Tree bridge over the railway. From there the road is mainly at grade with a gradient falling gently to the east towards the new Pegswood roundabout junction with the C395 Bothal Road. From this junction the road falls gently towards its eastern limit, on shallow embankment, where it ties into the existing A197.
The bypass will be approximately 2.7km in length, comprising single carriageway road, 7.3m in width.
The road construction works are expected to take approximately 15 months.
